A Pratt & Whitney spokeswoman said the jet-engine manufacturer is laying off about 350 salaried employees across the country, with most of the cuts coming in Connecticut.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Whitlow says the layoffs took effect on Wednesday. They represent less than 1 percent of the company's work force of more than 38,000 employees.
Whitlow says the job cuts are being done because of economic conditions in the aerospace industry. She says Pratt is taking the action to keep its cost structure competitive.
Whitlow says of the 350 jobs cuts, 280 are in Connecticut operations.
